Tell me about yourself ?

I am an associate at Tandon & Co. with one year of experience in practicing civil litigation. I grew up in Ghaziabad. I did my schooling at DPS Indirapuram and pursued law from Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune. I am a sport enthusiast. I play badminton and during the pandemic I learnt baking. I have a family of four including an elder brother, mom and dad. My mom is a public health officer and my dad works as a manager in operations department at Times of India.

What inspired you to make your career in the field of law?

I am an avid reader and I have an urge to look for reasonings behind whatever I read or discuss since an early age. Hence, my keen interest in research and consistency towards reading inspired me to pursue law so as to hone these skills and develop more while at it. While I was aware that I am a first generation lawyer, but that never stopped me from aiming towards the profession.

What are your strengths?

I am centered, disciplined and can think on my feet. I have the zeal to learn which keeps me motivated and helps me to enjoy the process while at it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

It's only been an year since I graduated and started working but I am certain that I will grow to the position that I am working on. I'd like to be seen with an expertise in a specialized practice area over the years.

Tell me about an accomplishment you are most proud of.

My drafts have significantly improved in an year and the initial jitters while appearing before Courts/Tribunals have escaped. As mentioned earlier, consistency, constant support and faith of the mentors in me has helped me to accomplish the aforesaid.

What is your dream job?

The profession gives me a sense of fulfillment and the push to strive. Thus, I can't think of any better dream job than this.

What would you look to accomplish in the first 30 days/60 days/90 days on the legal job?

I would try to comprehend the existing matters that my team is working on. This really helps to understand the background of the task assigned and it really saves time and effort to reach out the team members for something that you can read on your own.

Discuss your educational background.

I did my schooling in Ghaziabad at DPS Indirapuram. Thereafter, I pursued B.A. LLB (Hons.) i.e. the five year integrated programme from Pune at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University, New Law College.

Tell me how you handled a difficult situation.

I once had to appear before a single Judge bench at Delhi High Court to seek adjournment. While the task seemed fairly easy , little did I know that the other side will start arguing the matter just when I was about to seek adjournment. Since, I had interned at various firms and chambers before, I was aware of the basic court mannerisms including if the other side has started its arguments, one should never interrupt. Hence, I let him finish and then requested for a short accommodation. The Judge recorded by submission but also asked me if I had any objections to the submissions put forth by the opposite side's counsel. In reply thereto, I submitted that I do have objection but it would be better if my senior leads the arguments in the present matter. Hence, my submissions were duly recorded by the Hon'ble Bench.

What motivates you?

The legal profession brings forth a lot of challenges in form of legal queries. The urge to seek answers and to keep going until I have the required answer is the real driving force that motivates me to do better.

Are you a leader or a follower?

Well, currently I'd say I'm a follower. However, I have started to take ownership of my work even if it's the smallest task assigned. This has helped me to pave a path to become a leader.

What was the last law book you’ve read for knowledge?

I have recently read the Miscellaneous Law Referencer written by Justice BS Chauhan and Talking of Justice written by Leila seth.

Your interests apart from studies?

I am a sport enthusiast. I play badminton. Also, quite recently, during the pandemic, I learnt baking.

The best experience and a success habit you would like to share for our readers that would encourage them.

Stay focused, stay humble and practice discipline and look for a driving force that really motivates you to stick with the profession. I am at a nascent stage in this profession and this is too early to share my success stories.

Advocates Pedia Foundation have committed to establish Advocatespedia like Wikipedia, Any Opinion or Suggestions?

Well, it's a great step to recognize even the younger lot of lawyers. I'd suggest to remove the character limit in the answers as some answers cannot be lengthened and have to be brief. This platform could really help the lawyers to connect and network better.

Where are you working currently?

Currently, I am working at Tandon & Co. Delhi office as a legal associate. I handle civil and commercial disputes at the firm.

Any suggestion for new lawyer?

Make a positive first impression and make sure that it lasts. Be productive and learn from your mistakes. Speak up your mind and be rational. Stay focused, stay humble and practice discipline and look for a driving force that really motivates you to stick with the profession. Don't shy away from work, however, do set your boundaries for an optimal work life balance.
